Why 40% of deals miss their deadline – and why leaving the office shouldn’t be the reason

September 14, 2026

Forty percent of deals miss the timeline set in their own documents, according to research by BCG. Most deal teams blame complexity, but few talk about the hours lost every time a key decision-maker steps away from their desk.

The deal doesn’t know you’ve left the building

M&A has got harder. Average European deal sizes have doubled, making due diligence denser and the margin for delay thinner. Roughly half of deal-makers now report that transactions take one to three months longer to close than they did just a few years ago.

For most deal teams, the moment someone boards a flight or walks into a back-to-back meeting day, small things start to slip. A buyer question sits unanswered for three hours, a permission request waits in an email thread, or a document lands in the data room and nobody picks it up until the next morning. None of these are disasters on their own, but but across a six-month transaction, they add up.

Where the time actually goes

Q&A is where deals lose the most ground and create risk

Questions and answers are the circulatory system of any transaction. When a buyer raises a query, every hour it sits unanswered creates uncertainty that quietly erodes confidence in the process.

Managing Q&A properly has previously meant being at a desktop. You log in, review the thread, reroute the question to the right expert, and confirm it’s been answered correctly – all within a platform that maintains the governance your legal team requires. Step away from your desk and that process doesn’t officially pause. It just does, practically speaking.

When a deal professional needs to grant or revoke document access urgently and can’t reach a laptop, the temptation is to handle it over email. It feels efficient in the moment but creates an evidentiary gap that tends to surface later, in an audit or a regulatory review, and also creates a potential data leak.

Deal control that travels with you

The Drooms Mobile App was built to close this gap. Not to replicate the full data room on a smaller screen, but to give deal players the specific capabilities they need to keep things moving when they’re away from their desks.

Q&A that doesn’t pause: Ask questions, answer them, reroute them to the right team member, and get notified the moment something needs your attention. The same governance that applies on desktop applies on mobile, with no workarounds and no broken audit trail.  (Coming soon)

Access management without the laptop: Grant and revoke access to documents and folders directly from the app. Every action is logged within the audited platform and carries exactly the same evidentiary weight as one made from a desktop. Permission decisions therefore happen inside Drooms, not in a forwarded email chain.

Your documents, index and folders: Browse the full data room index, open any document, and reorganise folders as the deal evolves — all with the same structure you see on desktop. If something needs moving or renaming, you don’t need to wait until you’re back at your desk.

AI Assistant: Ask a question in plain language and get an answer drawn directly from your documents. Useful when you need to locate something quickly and don’t have time to search manually.

Team chat: Message your deal team directly inside the data room, so conversations stay in context and nothing gets lost in a separate inbox or messaging app.

Notifications, translations and secure login: Know the moment something changes in your project, without having to check in manually. For cross-border transactions, the app works in seven languages. And access is secured via password, SSO or face ID, so getting in is quick without compromising on security.

The same accountability, wherever you are

Nothing about the governance and data security changes when you move from desktop to mobile on Drooms. An action taken from a phone carries the same audit trail and traceability as one taken from a desktop. Access grants happen inside the audited platform. Q&A responses are tracked. The deal keeps moving because the platform keeps working, regardless of where you are.

Deals have gone mobile. Has your deal room?

Deal teams increasingly want a workspace that helps them manage approvals, communication and access in one place. The Drooms Mobile App is available on Apple devices and gives you full Q&A, user management and audit trail functionality from wherever the deal takes you.

Your deal doesn’t stop when you leave the office. Now, neither do you.
